Physical Security & Stockpile Management: UNMAS at Work
Monday, 16 June 1:15 to 2:30 pm
Conference Room 3
United Nations Conference Building
(UN Entrance on 1st Avenue at 42nd Street)
Since the Programme of Action on small arms and light weapons was adopted in 2001, the United Nations has been fully engaged in both the policy discussions and the operational implementation of it. UNMAS will share best practices for operationalizing the programme in terms of stockpile management and physical security. Practical examples from some of the most challenging and fragile conflict and post-conflict settings will be presented.
In addition to the Director of UNMAS, the side event panel will include the participation of United Nations Assistant Secretary-General Dmitry Titov, General Kani Diabate Coulibaly, President of the National Commission for the Fight Against the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Mali, and UNMAS Chief of Policy, Ms. Abigail Hartley.
A short film documenting the destruction of 85 ground to air missiles in Mali, completed in June 2014, will be screened.
