Award winning photographer Karen Perlmutter, has set out to capture the raw and mysterious beauty of Umbria in central Italy. The photographs depict some of the ancient fountains of Spoleto; the stone weathered, and rich with intricate detail. The raw beauty of the Umbrian countryside is hauntingly beautiful; there is a gentleness to the landscapes. The photographer captures quiet moments in a vast space. The light is tranquil and glows with a peaceful quality. This is the second Italian Series shot by acclaimed photographer Karen Perlmutter. The first series was photographed on the Amalfi Coast. Again the photographer shoots her work using a plastic “toy” camera known as a Holga. With this camera, she is able to achieve such effects as blurring, vignetting, light leaks and distortions. She also continues to shoot with film - “Film is able to capture the emotions of the shot.” The end results are dreamy and ethereal, as though time has stood still.
