Verona – Centro Storico, Verona, Italy

Tocatì International Festival of Street Games organized by the Association of Ancient Games in collaboration with the Municipality of Verona - Area Culture, 18, 19, 20 and 21 September 2014 to host the twelfth edition in Verona's historic center. This year, for three days, the protagonist is Mexico, which brings in the streets and squares of the historic games, rituals, music and dance with color and gaiety of Central America. The Festival features approximately 40 traditional games from both the Host Country 2014 - Mexico, both from various Italian regions. Are presented by a group of passionate gamers, ready to share the ancient playful gestures and telling their habits and history of the Territory (the traditional game is part of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO stated in the Charter of the International Game, 2003). The public can admire the most spectacular of which some traditional Mexican pre-Columbian (Pelota P'urépecha, Juego de Corozo, Pelota Mixteca de Hule, Trompo and Pitarra) and even three thousand years of pre-Columbian ball games (Ulama de mazo, Ulama de antebrazo and Ulama de Cadera). Among the 20 Italian traditional games the ball has a place in the foreground to facilitate the comparison between the traditional sferistica that the ancient Greeks and Romans has come down to us, with the games of the Mesoamerican tradition. Mexican music and songs resound through the streets of the old town and especially in Mexico's Square (Piazza dei Signori), where you take turns on stage musicians and dancers from various parts of Mexico. In Lungadige San Giorgio there will be another stage for the Italian musical groups. From Piazza Erbe square Anastasia September 19 there is the usual inaugural parade, and the former church of San Pietro Martire San Giorgetto and open to the public an exhibition dedicated to the rich Mexican burlesque tradition, which has about 200 games played by seventy different populations and is set by the FMJDAT (Mexican Federation Games Indigenous and Traditional). A Palazzo Forti, another exhibition presents a discussion of the myths and rituals of the Mexican tradition. Reflection on topics entertaining - and not only - contributing numerous celebrities from the world of culture with conferences and meetings with the public starting already a few days before the Festival. In the Auditorium of the Forum of Culture Ludica (Cortile Mercato Vecchio) players take turns Italians, Mexicans and other countries around the world, academics experts in the history and traditions of traditional sports and authors of books on the themes of the game. For children there are numerous "Laboratories of the game", edited by associations and institutions that deal with gambling as a profession and also hosts many activities offered by the municipalities of Italy network Jonah (National Association of Playing Cities). Finally, the Lungadige San Giorgio, in the kitchens of the Festival, you can taste wines and specialties of Verona and Mexican cuisine, while the Osteria of the game are local wines and menu Kilometer zero thanks to the collaboration of small local producers. We also report that this year for the first time play activities also take place in the station of Verona Porta Nuova, in agreement with GrandiStazioni, which are preceded by similar initiatives gaming stations Rome Tiburtina and Venice Saint Lucia. ABOUT FESTIVAL - Born in 2003, the Festival had to be an immediate success. Since 2006, each year is dedicated to a different country that is represented by games, music, dance and culinary characteristics (2006 Spain, Croatia in 2007, Scotland in 2008, 2009 Greece, Switzerland in 2010, in 2011 many countries around the world on the occasion of the World Congress of gambling experts ITSGA (International Traditional Sports and Games Association), 2012 all host countries have previously sent a delegation to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the festival, in 2013 Hungary). - The Festival has always been committed to sustainability and the environment and uses only energy from renewable sources.
