In 2014 the international competition of cartoons Spirit of Wine, organized annually by the Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia, reached the prestigious goal of the 15th edition. Unfortunately, instead of celebrating such an important result in the usual frame of Friuli Doc, the organizers had to take the bitter decision to postpone both the awards is the simultaneous exhibition of the selected works.
"With great regret," says Elda Felluga, president of the Association, "we were forced to postpone the festivities and the proclamation of the winners. We are really sorry that, due to lack of adequate funds, we are not able to prepare the annual exhibition during Friuli Doc inside Palazzo Florio. The decision to leave a message on the world of wine to the expression of pungent satire is what has always distinguished the competition and for this his "conclusion" natural, with the exhibition and awards, has always been part of the great food and wine festival hosted in Udine. Unfortunately this year will not be so, but we are working to find a solution to still be able to celebrate the winners and we hope to be able to allow the public to see the works selected loyalists.
Spirito di Vino is an original and captivating challenge that is thrown every year all over the world: the theme of the wine reveals a cultural element that is of infinite inspiration original creations. And so the competition held since its debut international character to allow an exchange of views between artists from around the globe, has turned quickly into a highly anticipated event, a moment of encounter between cultures and histories, including topical and historical events reviewed and reinterpreted in a humorous way.
The competition, now, as I said, in its 15th edition, is held every year by Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia together with the magazines and Octagon Spirit of Wine, the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Cassa di Risparmio del Friuli Venezia Giulia.
This year the contest has been received with great enthusiasm and has confirmed its strong international flavor: it has been sent over 500 cartoons by artists from Italy and all over the world, from India to Kenya, from Mexico to Canada, from Peru to Lithuania.
The cartoonists who have decided to engage in this original challenge, where each year emerge in talents, will be judged by a special jury headed by President Alfio Krancic and the honorary president Giorgio Forattini, helped in the difficult choice of 30 works selected for the final phase of the illustrious names from satirical Italian landscape, journalism and graphic design: Emilio Giannelli (cartoonist), Valerio Marini (cartoonist), Gianluigi Colin (art director of the Corriere della Sera), Franz Botrè and Enzo Rizzo (Director and Deputy Director of the Spirit of Wine magazine), Carlo Cambi (wine journalist), Paolo Marchi (journalist of Il Giornale), Aldo Colonetti (director magazine Octagon), Fede & Tinto (Decanter - RadioRai), Francesco Salvi (actor) and Elda Felluga (Chairman of the Movimento Turismo del Vino FVG). The lucky winners will be rewarded with a selection of the best wine cellars associated with the Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia.
