The creation of Giants in the City was born out of Alejandro Mendoza's (founder and artist/curator) desire and necessity to express his work on a giant scale and to allow access to a massive interaction within all sectors of the community.
'Giants in the City' is a contemporary visual art experience and a great alternative to the typical cultural event. Made of urethane-coated nylon, the sculptures manipulated by the hand of the artists take on magical powers— powers to insufflate life and be forever fixed in our memories.
What story do they tell us? The 'giants' are the result of an unbelievable mastery of technique, a gigantesque ambition, and a deep understanding of narrative all woven in an expressionist force. For example, one ''giant' signifies power with its muscles bursting from gigantic and disproportionate hands and feet. However, this image of force juxtaposes with a message of human fragility where hopes and dreams are released through tears and laughter.
The exhibit promotes intellectual growth, but is accessible and understood by all. Families are especially welcome and children are encouraged to run and play among the sculptures. Relax and enjoy the spectacle either during the day or plan a moonlit picnic surrounded by the 'giants' lit up at night. Exhibitions are free.
