It can’t be easy to be Maolo Torreggiani. Extremely hyperactive both musically and creatively, Maolo’s musical career begins in high school, as founder of the emo post-rock band Non Compliant Cardia. Once the school years were over he starts My Awesome Mixtape, a successful alt-pop combo with a rotating lineup that soon coalesced into an energetic quintet much-loved by critics and with a wide fanbase supporting their over 400 gigs in just a couple of years, performing all over Italy, Central Europe and even reaching New York after winning a contest held by MTV. When the adventures of My Awesome Mixtape were over, Maolo formed Quakers and Mormons, an unusual duo of dark, claustrophobic hip hop with two complex and grown-up albums to its name.
Now, once again ready to start over, returning under the spotlight as Sin/Cos: a new project which perfectly blends pop and electronica, soul and r&b.
Music isn’t everything to Maolo: both eclectic and dynamic, Maolo alternates his musical activity with his love for fine cuisine, a talent he has developed into a career as a professional cook. His list of experiences as cook or catere is a veritable guidebook to the best places in Italy where one may enjoy both a great concert and a perfect meal: Estragon and Locomotiv (Bologna), Karemaski (Arezzo), Interzona (Verona), Hana-Bi (Marina di Ravenna) and most recently head cook at Camera a Sud (Bologna).
Over the past ten years, Maolo has been the leader of three major musical projects, published six albums, performed at literally hundreds of concerts, travelled a countless amount of miles throughout Italy and Europe: all this for Music, Cookery and Cinema. A classic example of creative hyperactivity.
Being Maolo Torreggiani can’t be easy, but we can only consider ourselves lucky to have such a creative, curious and indefatigable mind among us.
