Freeze did it all in 2013. Branching out into live bands, they brought to the sphere their acumen in hosting dance music in unthinkable venues when The Charlatans and UB40 adorned the stages of St George’s Hall and Liverpool Cathedral respectively. They also continued their electronic mandate, teaming up with Cadenza, Bedrock, Innervisions and Kompakt to bring the likes of Luciano, Ame, Dixon, Michael Mayer, Argy and many more to Liverpool, further embellishing their reputation has premier tastemakers in the city.
2014 will be kicking off in equally as adventurous fashion with the news that they will team up once more with Bedrock Records, hosting the imprint for a ten hour session at the Garage in Liverpool’s Baltic District. The venue is the epitome of modern day warehouse, and as such there’s only one man who can ever truly represent the label he has fashioned in his own image over the past twenty years – John Digweed.
A DJ and producer who has been at the very apex of electronic excellence since the early nineties, Digweed is one of the true greats of modern dance music. His meticulous mixing remains legendary, consistently delivered with guile, flair and panache, whilst his ability to traverse genres marks him out from his peers. Whether setting the tone with deep, spacey sonics or unleashing the vortex through pulsating techno and visceral grooves, every set is a masterclass and an example of the raw power of a DJ in complete control of their dance floor.
He’ll be joined by BPItch Control’s Ellen Allien. Much like John Ellen has been at the centre of one of Europe’s most well regarded record labels in BPitch, fashioning a blueprint for expertly crafted electronic music. Trippy techno, evocative house music, and gnarly electro have all been delivered on the imprint in the near twenty years it has been in existence, with Ellen’s DJ sets equally as ebullient of European electronic music at its finest.
Freeze specifically required a DJ comfortable in driving the evening into the early hours as they prepare for their first ever 8am finish, taking Digweed’s peak-time extended set into the dawn. Allien’s consistent appearances at arguably the world’s most feted club in Berghain making her the perfect choice. As ever Freeze resident and Bedrock artist Jemmy will be at hand to set the tone from the off.
