TANIA VULCANO: (dc10 / circo loco) The indisputable First Lady of Circo Loco and Queen of DC10 Ibiza, Tania Vulcano was there when it all began on those Monday mornings back in 1999 and continues to be a beacon for quality underground music. Whilst still typically playing the headline Terrace set for Circo Loco at DC10, Tania is global representative for the brand and continent-hops every weekend to meet the persistent demand for her music. Unsurprisingly, in many ways it is Tania's sound itself that acts as a showcase for what Circo Loco is all about. Vulcano, Uruguayan incidentally, now also runs the successful label Isgud Records along with Tato. Featuring her own productions and others that truly embrace the deep spirit of deep, percussive vinyl grooves, Isgud has rapidly garnered a reputation for only the finest house music.
MARTINEZ: (cocoon / cadenza / moon harbour) Martinez, by birth Martin Swanstein, was born in 1981 and raised in the southernmost part of Sweden. At an early age he discovered techno and house music. Since he already played various instruments it was a natural progression to begin producing music himself. He also got into DJing and started hunting down techno records and got into mixing. Some years later, a demo tape earned him the opportunity to develop his production skills in the Wrong Steps studio in Stockholm, where he co-produced some of his own tracks together with the French producer Manuel Perez. One of these early tracks later appeared as “Late Night Groove” on Martin's debut 12" on the Swedish label Deeplay Music.
In 2000 Martinez moved from his small hometown in Swedish to the more open musical climate of the Danish capital, Copenhagen. This encouraged him to put even more time and energy into his music productions and not long after this he landed a record deal with the renowned Guidance Recording label in Chicago. First out was the “Laidback Grooves EP” with its mix of Deep House and Broken Beats and two more EP were to follow. Martinez earlier work includes remixes for Danish pop/house act Filur as well as Silicone Soul, Jussi Pekka, Dibaba, Spiro Projecto and later Underworld, Luna City Express, Miss Kittin, Mathew Dear & Seth Troxler, Joel Mull, Leon and his remix of Nathan Fake's “The Sky Was Pink” was a big hit in the DJ world.
COPY PASTE SOUL: (exploited / gruuv) The rise of new artist Copy Paste Soul over the past 18 months has seen the elusive producer garner the support of the electronic music elite, with luminaries such as Annie Mac, Justin Martin, MistaJam, Skream, T. Williams, Modeselektor, Disclosure, and Tensnake all supporting his soul-quenching sub-heavy rave inspired sound. By incorporating his love of Detroit Techno, Drum & Bass and UK and US garage into a finely honed style, Copy Paste Soul is leading the charge with his left-of-centre broken-house sound.
Releases such as his ‘Blink’ and ‘Look At Me’ EPs on the highly respected Exploited earlier in 2013 caused respective storms, and remixes for the likes of Photek, Deadmau5 and Alex Barck on Sonar Kollektiv, as well as Hugo on Gruuv signal that his production nous is respected and sought after by those in the know.
Recent high-profile gigs such as the O2 Academy Oxford for Annie Mac's Presents Party have had the industry talking and his terrace performance at Carl Cox’s Revolution Night at Space Ibiza had the likes of Carl Cox, Loco Dice and Louis Vega all dancing in the booth as he closed his set. Upcoming gigs at Bestival and IN:Motion in Bristol signal that Copy Paste Soul’s assault on the elite is happening in double-time.
2013 is still yet to see a return to Exploited for two more EPs, plus an outing on Gruuv following the successful remix for Audiojack's imprint earlier this year. So watch this space, sit back and have your soul soothed by the bass heavy beats of Copy Paste Soul.
COLIN CHIDDLE: Colin Chiddle is the co fouder of Art of Dark which is one of Londons most successful events providing the best underground parties around. Art of Dark is the label recently born from one of Londons most successful new parties. Beginning life as a secret, invite only adventure for those closest to house music’s cutting edge, it has since gathered together a collection of residents and regularly returning guests. The output of the label will consistently reflect the sound of that collective.
METS: DJ Mets has been around for some time now. Resident DJ at events like Funkinyou, Key Of Life and Promised Land, he is constantly DJ'ing at the top events in the UK.Turning his successful promoting hand at music production, Mets debut EP came out on Funkinyou records last year and his track 'Not Over' out on brand new record label Cut A Rug Records recently received big support from many artists, further releases music due from Mets in 2014.
