Silent Beat´s philosophy:
Although "Techno" has naturalized as an umbrella term for various sorts of electronic dance music - actually called Techno only those variants in which a straight 4/4-Bassdrum is heard.
The result is this hectic, no-frills style in Detroit around 1980.
Inspired by Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode's synth-pop, Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Jeff Mills developed a barren, mechanical sound, which soon took the name Techno.
Contrary to House, Techno dispensed with emotional sound signatures and references to disco and soul. Goal of many techno producers is an abstract, purely physically acting music that does not require historical burden.
A hard straight beat, a synth bass line and melody arrangements reduced are the center, sometimes with a robotic voice vocoder. The Machine sound determines the aesthetic of Techno until today.
