THE IRREPRESSIBLES present NUDE
“A pure jewel, far from mainstream music ” MODZIK, France
“The eroticism and magic of the sound is overwhelmingly dangerous, scintillating music, fluid as mercury” The Guardian
"I get the feeling that Jamie McDermott could probably stop bullets with his voice if he wanted to. Breathing every note, eking every possible emotion from each syllable he sings. He sings and passers by stop and listen, he sings and the world stops spinning, he sings and each particle I possess is his, his alone to manipulate as is his will. My body becomes a conduit for his feeling, I find freedom in its power, I find freedom in my powerlessness to it...
'The first thing that hits you when listening to Nude, the superlative second album by London-based art-pop group The Irrepressibles, is the vocal power of lead singer and songwriter Jamie McDermott. McDermott's capacity to wrench heartfelt, overwhelming emotion with every word that emerges from his mouth'
"Jamie Irrepressible’s remarkable inferno of a voice"
Gods in the TV
As rebellious as their name suggests The Irrepressibles are one of the UK’s most genre-defying indie bands. Led by the ‘sky-scraping’ voice of Jamie Irrepressible they began in 2002 as what he called a “performance orchestra” creating audio-visual installations that developed into performance works for Latitude, The V&A, South Bank Centre, Barbican, Cite De La Musique in Paris, Holland Festival, and Roma Europa in Italy amongst others and which influenced a whole gamut of artists in world of pop music.
The band went on to release two internationally critically acclaimed studio albums Mirror Mirror 2010 and Nude 2012, and have provided music for award winning opera, film and contemporary dance, along side collaborating with important artists in the worlds of electronica and experimental music. Their debut Mirror Mirror (2010) featured the now seminal ‘In This Shirt’ which became both a subcultural anthem for the LGBT movement whilst being used extensively in fashion and mainstream film. Their 2012 follow up Nude – a harrowing and celebratory record of homosexual love – was hailed by The Independent as “an act of bravery in a cowardly world” and took the band to perform for the first time in the USA and Asia with 2013 seeing them bring their message of sexual equality and liberation to Russia at a free concert in Moscow’s Gorky Park to 5 thousand people. The Irrepressibles have collaborated or have been remixed by Norweigen electronica giants Royksopp. Sweden’s Iamamiwhoami, and New Yorker’s Hercules and Love Affair – with Jamie featuring as vocalist on some of Royksopp’s recent releases.
The Irrepressibles will present their internationally touring live spectacle NUDE for the first time in London at the Forum. Expanding from the intimate and minimal through the visceral and symphonic into an electronic spectacle of movement, light and sound . Expect something both honestly emotional, subversive and playful. Please note that the show will feature strobe effects.
