IN A DARK ROOM: JOHN ASKEW (3 hour set!)
Special guests: Angry Man, Sebastian Brandt, Arctic Moon
TRAK LOUNGE BAR. FRIDAY 28 MARCH
John Askew is conquering dance floors all around the world. John has played at high profile club nights, such as Cream, Ministry of Sound, Meganite, Slinky, Godskitchen, The Gallery, After Hour Power, and Passion as well as at prestigious festivals, e.g. Homelands (Radio One Stage) Trance Energy and Creamfields. His DJ sets reflect his highly opinionated views – rampant and ruthless. His ear for high quality music is derived from years of song writing in a plethora of rock bands as well as two decades producing electronic music. Never taking the obvious and predictable ”anthem after anthem route” John’s sets subtly blend highly emotive melodies with driving beats – featuring music sourced from “outside the box”.
Since 2001, John pushed his distinctive sounds to the masses through his record labels Discover and Discover Dark where he found and first signed up and coming names John O’Callaghan, Sean Tyas, Bryan Kearney and Indecent Noise to name but a few. John left Discover to head up Perfecto Records – including the GOA inspired Perfecto Fluoro imprint in 2011. Today he pushes dark underground sounds through Fluoro to the generation of disenchanted trance fans who are bored of hearing EDM pollute their charts.
His long list of hit productions include his new single “Shine” (Currently number 3 on Beatport) as well as a long list of back catalogue bombs “The Witch”, “Bastard”, “Vandalism”, “Torture Chamber”. “Fade To Black” and his recent massive remix of JOC’s “Stresstest”……….
John’s forthcoming and brutally honest facebook rants about the scene and life in general always invoke mass response in his support. Just ask Avicii. His tongue may have venom, but disguised under his corrupt sense of humour lies a truth and authenticity that so many connect to. While his views are his own – they are often what we all feel.
He doesn’t give interviews, he doesn’t do guest mixes and he’s not interested in promoting himself outside of his own social media. He recently took his web site offline and replaced it with a holding page that simply said “I ain’t tellin’ you nothing”. If you book Askew to DJ and ask for a copy of his biography his management sends a single page which simply says on it “John is a massive shit stirring knob piece who talks shit continuously and from time to time makes the occasional record”.
Why has all this key promotional information been discarded?
Because in John’s words “Music is the only thing that’s relevant or important. All the other stuff is just a poisonous distraction – so I’ve cleansed my life of all of it.”
A long overdue Antipodean return, John Askew is firm favourite with Australian audiences and this limited weekend run of shows are guaranteed to sell out!
Get at him!
