Federicus 2015

centro storico-piazza duomo 1, Altamura Bari, Italy

Federicus ancient center Altamura * * 1 - 2 - May 3, 2015 On the way back from sixth Crusade, Frederick II has stood on the plateau of Murgie, in the Land of Bari. The emperor, was fascinated by the beauty of the area and the healthy climate and mild hills of Murgia, decided to build, in 1232, a Cathedral, around which united the people who lived in small villages in the area. After centuries are the heirs of those people to pay homage to the emperor to commemorate the founder of the city and the deep bond that binds them. The coming of Federico II in Bari is commemorated by Federicus, the medieval festival that involves the entire ancient city Frederick. The event, during the previous editions, has attracted thousands of visitors from neighboring municipalities and tourists from abroad. The festival is animated by a crowd of flag-waving, tamburrini, jugglers, street artists and jesters along the streets of the old town. The most important events of the commemoration, which this year will take place on days 1, 2 and 3 May, are the historical procession and the Palio di San Marco. Many other events, however, will cheer and intratteranno visitors during the weekend in the shadow of the imposing medieval scene prepared for the occasion: the reconstruction of the site of the cathedral, military camps, the market stalls, the conference theme, the medieval museum and the "parade of children" composed of elementary school children. The visit to Altamura will also allow you to discover the historical, architectural and natural wonders of the city and its surroundings: the Man of Altamura, the footprints of dinosaurs, the Sassi of Matera, Capital of Culture 2019, or the Gravina Underground.
