Project Description: Invasive weed control is a vital and ongoing effort on the Chugach National Forest! We have relatively few infestations demonstrating that our work in controlling the weeds has a huge impact. Volunteers will be travelling via train (no additional fees) to the Spencer Glacier and Lake area to control dandelions along newly developed trails and recreation sites. The crew will stay at Spencer Glacier and Lake until Wednesday afternoon before departing to camp at Porcupine Campground in Hope, Alaska to control non-native species along the Gull Rock and Summit Creek Trails.

Area and Attractions: The group will spend the first part of the week in Spencer, a backcountry location that will be accessed by train (scenic train ride provided for free). While working on the Spencer Bench Trail, the crew will have spectacular views of Spencer Glacier and Spencer Lake. Due to the remoteness of the site, there will be very few people besides our group, making for peaceful solitude. For the second part of the trip, the group will stay in Porcupine Campground in Hope, AK. Here, volunteers will focus on the Summit Creek Trail which accesses beautiful alpine habitat and connects with the larger Resurrection Pass Trail system and the Gull Rock Trail which provide incredible views of Cook Inlet. There will be several hiking opportunities available such as to Spencer Glacier and Hope Point Trail.
